About this activity
On the edge of Jaipur, an elephant village is home to a small number of elephants and the keeper families who have looked after them for generations. This is our ethical version of a visit there — no rides and no painting, just the ordinary, everyday parts of an elephant's care, done side by side with the person who knows her best.
The whole session is spent with a single elephant — yours for the three hours — so there is time to actually get to know her. You feed her by hand, help with her bath, walk the village track beside her, and hear from her keeper how she is looked after, then finish with something cool to drink and plenty of photographs. Here is how the session runs.
Itinerary
Pickup From Your Jaipur Hotel (Add-On)
Added private transport? Your driver picks you up wherever you are staying in Jaipur, hotel or private home, in an air-conditioned car. Expect a drive of 30 to 40 minutes out to the village, depending on which part of Jaipur you are leaving from. Already close by, or traveling in your own car? Just meet us at the village.
Arrival and Introductions
At the village you are paired with your elephant for the session and introduced to her keeper — often the same person who has been with her from calfhood. Nothing is rushed. Give her a few quiet minutes to look you over; elephants relax fastest around people who move slowly and speak softly, and the rest of the visit goes better for it.
Hand-Feeding in the Shade
Find a shady spot with the keeper and offer her sugarcane, bananas, jaggery balls rolled at the village, and handfuls of fresh greens, one piece at a time from your hand. Elephants spend the better part of each day eating, and nothing builds trust with her faster than you holding out the next bite.
Helping With Her Bath
Next, walk her over to the bathing area. The keeper looks after the water while you take the brush and get to work. Her skin is thick and wrinkled, with stiff, sparse hairs rather than a coat, and she will happily stand still for a long, thorough scrub. Splashing is guaranteed — pack a towel and a dry change of clothes.
A Slow Walk Side by Side
With the keeper close by, take a gentle walk with her around the village track, going at whatever pace she sets. It is the calmest part of the visit and, for many guests, the one they remember most. We do not offer rides — your time with her is spent on the ground, right next to her.
Learning From Her Keeper
Sit down with the keeper and ask whatever you are curious about — what she eats in a day, how she rests, how her health is looked after, and how the family came to care for elephants. Your guide translates wherever it helps, in your chosen language.
Tea in the Shade and Your Photos
Rest out of the sun with a cup of chai or something chilled. Your guide and the keeper help you take the pictures you came for — standing beside her, feeding her, or with a hand resting on her trunk — so no one heads home without a photo of their own with her.
Back to Your Hotel (Add-On)
With transport added, the car takes you back to where you are staying. Heading straight into a Jaipur sightseeing tour afterwards? Your driver can drop you there instead.

Before you go
Important notes for this tour.
- We run two sessions a day, one early and one late, while it is cool enough for the elephants to be at their liveliest. Nothing runs at midday.
- You will get wet at bath time, so bring a towel and a change of clothes.
- The village ground is dusty — comfortable clothes and closed shoes work best.
- Each elephant is cared for by her own keeper's family. The keeper knows her moods better than anyone, so please follow their lead throughout the visit.
- Amin Tours does not offer elephant rides or elephant painting. Every part of this visit happens on the ground, at her pace.
- Planning Jaipur sightseeing or a Golden Triangle trip as well? Book this visit for your Jaipur day, say so when you book, and we will work the timings around both.
- Photos and video are welcome at every stage.
- All feeding and bathing take place with the elephant's own keeper overseeing.
Questions travelers ask
- 01
What is the Elephant Village?
It is an ethical elephant village on the edge of Jaipur, where elephants live with the keeper families who have looked after them for generations. Our visit stays outside the tourist-ride economy — nobody climbs on, and nothing is painted on her skin.
- 02
What happens during the three hours?
You hand-feed your elephant, help give her a bath, walk the village track beside her, and sit with her keeper to learn how she is cared for — then wind down with refreshments and photographs. Her keeper stays with you the whole time.
- 03
Do you offer elephant rides?
No — we do not offer rides. Everything on this visit happens on the ground: feeding, bathing, walking beside her, and time with her keeper. The price is $40 per person.
- 04
Is elephant painting part of the visit?
No. We keep the visit to feeding, bathing, walking, and time with her keeper, and leave painting out.
- 05
What time does the visit start?
There are two sessions a day: mornings from 8:00 AM and afternoons from 3:00 PM. The midday heat is hard on the elephants and on you, so we leave that window empty.
- 06
How much time should I set aside, including travel?
The visit itself takes about three hours. With private transport added, allow roughly one more hour for the round trip from your Jaipur hotel.
- 07
Do you pick up from my hotel?
Yes, as an add-on — door-to-door transfers from your Jaipur hotel or residence are $25. Staying near the village, or driving yourself? You are welcome to meet us there.
- 08
Is the visit private?
Yes. Only your group takes part, with one elephant and her keeper set aside just for you.
- 09
Can children come along?
Yes, and they love it. Everything — feeding, bathing, walking — is done on foot at ground level, with a keeper right beside them the whole time.
- 10
What should we wear and bring?
Clothes you do not mind getting wet and dusty, closed shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Add a towel and a change of clothes for after the bath, and a camera or phone for pictures.
- 11
Is the village accessible?
Wheelchairs and strollers can be arranged on request, and the ground is flat, so getting around is easy.
- 12
Can I add this to a Jaipur tour?
Yes. Pair it with our Jaipur city sightseeing, or book it for your Jaipur day on a Golden Triangle trip. Let us know at booking and we will work the timings out.
- 13
Will someone take photos of us?
Yes. Your guide and the keeper know the angles that work best with an elephant, and they are happy to photograph your whole group with her.
- 14
Which languages can the guide speak?
English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese (Mandarin) — all nine come at no extra cost; just pick one when you book.
- 15
Can I cancel?
Yes — cancel up to 24 hours before your session begins and it costs you nothing.
- 16
Can we reach you on the day?
Yes — our support team is available around the clock, 24/7, for anything you need before or during your visit.
